I’m pretty consistently running into a major problem in retail: Sundays. It has been my conviction for years to not regularly be available on Sundays. I just had a job interview with Best Buy where I was basically told that if I’m not available on Sundays, then it’s “essentially a non-starter.” The rest of the interview went very well–she even told me that she was impressed with me, but not being available on Sundays is a real problem in retail. Alas.

I would have figured that in a college town, at a store like Best Buy, where most of the employees are students, having no availability on Sunday wouldn’t be as big of a deal. It wasn’t a problem in Moscow when I wouldn’t work on Sundays. Everyone there *wanted* the weekends. They didn’t interfere with their school schedules. I wonder what’s different here.

Oh well. I’m sure I’ll get on somewhere else. I pray that I am being faithful and not just legalistic and that God honors this.

One Response to Retail

  1. I am totally with you on this – emergencies only. I would support the ‘being faithful not legalistic’ claim wholeheartedly.
